Te Arawa Poitukohu (Te Arawa Basketball) was formed in 2013 under the auspices of the Rotorua Basketball Association to administer teams for the Maori Basketball National Tournament. The inaugural Maori Basketball National Tournament was held in Rotorua in 2013 and has continued to be held in Rotorua since then. Tenders will open for the Hosting the 2021 tournament.

NATIONAL MAORI BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT 2022

DATES: 24 - 29 JANUARY 2022 

HOST: ROTORUA

National Maori Tournament 2022 will be held in two parts: 

RANGATAHI:  Monday 24th, 25th, 26th January 2022

                - U7 Mixed (born 2015/2016)  

                - U9 (born 2013/2014)

                - U11 (born 2011/2012)

                - U13 (born 2009/2010)

                - U15 (born 2007/2008)

TAIPAKEKE :  Thursday 27th, 28th, 29th January 2022 will be:

                - U17 (born 2005/2006)

                - U19 (born 2003/2004)

                - Pakeke Mixed (over 35yrs)

                - Open/Social Mixed

                - Tane, Wahine, Special Olympics

ELIGIBILITY FOR TE ARAWA:

  1. Must be of NZ Maori descent and able to provide 'whakapapa' details which can be verified.
  2. Residing in the "Te Arawa' rohe - as long as one is of NZ Maori descent regardless of Iwi
  3. Te Arawa Descent - but residing outside of "Te Arawa" rohe (one must whakapapa to Te Arawa)
  4. Non-Maori with a NZ Maori spouse - may play in the Adult Mixed divisions only
  5. Mixed Open/Social - as above and over 18yrs old.
  6. Pakeke - as above and 45+yrs old.
  7. Register to Te Arawa Poitukohu (annual fee of $10 to be considered for a team).

TE ARAWA POITUKOHU TRAINING SCHEDULE:

*  9am - 10.30am: U9 Tama (ct1); U7 Mixed (ct2); U15 Tama Whero (ct3)

 10.30am-12pm: U15 Kotiro (ct1); U13 Kotiro (ct2); U9 Kotiro (ct3)

*  12pm - 1.30pm: U17 Kotiro (ct1); U11 Tama (ct2); U11 Tama (ct3)

*  1.30pm - 3pm: U13 Tama (ct1); U13 Tama (ct2); U19 Wahine (ct3)

   3pm - 4.30pm: U17 Tama (ct1); U11 Kotiro (ct2); U19 Tane (ct3)

  4.30pm - 6pm: Wahine (ct1); Tane (ct2); Mixed (ct3)

There is a maximum of up to two teams for each division (preference is a minimum of 8 & a maximum of 10 players per team).

If we don't have coaches for any age groups, then there won't be teams entered.

EXTRA TRIALS: Sunday 14 November 2021

  • Due to the number of players who registered and put in their apologies for the 30 October trials, we will be bringing back all trialists for the 14 November sessions - please see times above.
  • After the 14 November, the teams will be named.

FEES: 

REGISTRATION TO TE ARAWA POITUKOHU: $10 per player (to be paid prior to trials). If unable to trial on the day, please advise - you will still need to pay the $10 registration fee to be considered.

TOURNAMENT FEE: U7 & Special Olympics: $50 per player (due 21 November 2021)

                                    U9: $65 per player (due 21 November 2021)  Sorry, had the wrong age group see below for others.

                                    All other Grades (U11s, U13s, U15s, U17s, U19s, Adults): $80 per player (due 21 November 2021)
